STUDIO TAIYI

INFO

I’m Taiyi Yu, a designer currently based in The Netherlands. With a profound interest in fostering connections and exploring relationships, I like to adopt an improvisational and hands-on approach in my research and design practice. By crafting real-world stuff, I seek to bridge diverse perspectives and unfold engaging narratives through the playfulness and flexibility of design.

Always open to cool collaborations and new friends – so feel free to hit me up or haunt me on the street anytime!

"What if bamboo was once a part of concrete construction? "

Techniques are associated with materials rather than people because materials do "something". Concrete, as a means of construction, can be more accurately described as a process than as a material. With the project, the material experiment illustrates possibilities while concrete presents its attributes when it met with bamboo in ancient times. What would buildings have looked like by that time? Can concrete only be a rigid and smooth material? Three objects each represent a different part of a building, in order to envision alternative ways of construction and the landscape it brings along.
