STUDIO TAIYI

INFO

I’m Taiyi Yu, a designer currently based in The Netherlands. With a profound interest in fostering connections and exploring relationships, I like to adopt an improvisational and hands-on approach in my research and design practice. By crafting real-world stuff, I seek to bridge diverse perspectives and unfold engaging narratives through the playfulness and flexibility of design.

Always open to cool collaborations and new friends – so feel free to hit me up or haunt me on the street anytime!

Invisible Visibles

How do you perceive a land?

This project aims to explore how we perceive and use land. Rather than just analyzing from a distance, I engage with the land through physical activity such as walking, observing, gathering, talking, and creating. Using an abandoned plot in Den Haag, I intervene in the transitory state of wasted materials by using locally sourced materials and limited resources on site to create a series of street objects. These objects, such as chairs and dog fences, encourage interaction and invite dialogues about the often-invisible material movements during urban development and the rapid transformations that occur. Through this project, I aim to raise awareness of a much deeper understanding of the land and our relationship with it.
